Hi John. Firstly I wanted to say, I love the podcast listen to it religiously. And I think it’s the best 9ers podcast out there. How I came part of the faithful...well...I was about 6 years old and I watched a VHS recording my dad had of Super Bowl 23. It was one of the only times the UK would show an actual NFL game...otherwise we were lucky to get an hour show once a week called “BLITZ”. So we took what we could over here. We only heard of the big names too...Steelers, Green Bay and unfortunately the Raiders and Cowboys were always mentioned. He was always a 49ers fan though. He loved Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Tom Rathman and Jerry Rice to name a few. As soon as I watched that game I was hooked. All I wanted for Birthdays and Christmas presents was 49ers gear...I got a Joe Montana t shirt and wore it every chance I got. My dad and I both loved all sports, but he preferred football (soccer) and I preferred Rugby...these 2 sports don’t really mix, but we would always ask how each other’s teams and games went. So the one thing we would always have, was the 49ers and the NFL. We’ve experienced the highs and lows of being part of the Faithful...and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We even saw the 49ers play an exhibition game at the old Wembley stadium years ago. But the main aim was to get to Candlestick Park and see a home game. We kept putting it off and unfortunately it never happened. My dad passed away in late August last year. So I took it upon myself to get out to San Francisco in December last year and catch the last home game in rememberers for him. And what a game it was. We beat the Rams (as you know) and I’ve never heard a stadium or fan base so loud. I took a moment to soak it all in as I looked around the stadium and the Faithful were amazing, everyone was so kind and friendly. We had a few beers and chatted football. It was the most amazing experience. So even after 30 years of being a fan, I didn’t think being a 49ers fan could get any better. How wrong I was! I was so happy I made the choice all those years ago. Highs or lows, Faithful until the end. So I’ve just watched the Packers game...and wow...we’re going through a low point...but we’ll ride it out and get ready for the highs that will definitely be back when we’re healthy next season. Love to all the 49ers Faithful out there. Keep your heads up...it will get better! From Tom in Kent (just outside of London)
